Shaded Shangri-La

In November of 2009 I returned to Destin, Florida, and to the beautiful town of Seaside. Among the many photographs I took was a lovely and peaceful shot of a hammock on someone's front porch. At the time I wished I had something to place near that hammock to signify somebody had been using it. Being private property, I could hardly buy a bottle or glass of anything and mess up a very tidy porch area, so I settled for the existing hammock. Later, I began to think about drawing in that something and decided the picture needed a shot of some bright colours. I set up a still life with a large bottle of Orange Crush, a glass and straw, plus some newspapers, and using Photoshop the image was reduced to the appropriate size and placed into position, then redrawn to fit the finished painting. Image size 17" x 23" on Arches 300 lb cold pressed, using Winsor & Newton artist quality colours.
