My Mission Statement
Call this "a statement of mission", as corporations are fond of saying in so many of the annual reports I used to design for my clients. Ah - happy days of deadlines, copy changes at midnight, press breakdowns, and the ever present ghastly typo which sometimes slipped through. But not any more. Now I'm happily retired and painting watercolours for the fun of it.
I've nothing against you if you paint to sell your work. Good luck to you. As for me, I value the freedom to paint what I like, when I like, with no worries about its marketable qualities. I have no "schtik". I specialize in nothing in particular, thus I'm free to do things which please me no end, but are probably unmarketable.
The problem with painting for profit is that it often ruins a perfectly good hobby. There is often the desire among beginners that unless they actually SELL something they are not artists. Most of the internet sites I've researched want to sell you something: limited edition prints, brushes, instruction books, videos or links to expensive courses in Normandy this summer. Again, good for them.
Not here. There is nothing for sale in this site. Everything is absolutely free. In the unlikely event you decide to copy one of my paintings and produce a zillion greeting cards to sell, I'd hope you would have the courtesy to credit the painting to me. It would also help no end if you would drop me a small cheque now and then to help a retired artist on a modest pension! My "statement of mission " is to have fun, and encourage you to do the same. If even one small item helps you on your way to producing better watercolours, I'm happy. If it helps you to sell your paintings I'm also happy. Hey - it's a big world out there and there's room for both of us.
